TRACY LINBO TELLS US WHY SHE JOINED GROWERS EDGE

TRACY LINBO RECENTLY JOINED THE GROWERS EDGE TEAM AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF COMMERCIAL OFFICER. IN HER NEW ROLE, LINBO PLANS TO LEAD THE COMPANY’S COMMERCIAL STRATEGY EFFORTS AND CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THE SALES ORGANIZATION. WE ASKED LINBO A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY SHE JOINED THE GROWERS EDGE TEAM AND WHAT SHE HAS LEARNED IN HER POSITION THUS FAR.

Q: WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU ON THE TEAM. WHAT ENTICED YOU TO JOIN GROWERS EDGE?

LINBO: I have spent most of my career working with larger, well-established organizations. Here I can tap into my entrepreneurial spirit within a smaller company where we are building the organization with the customer in mind. Over time, we can understand what the customer needs are, and we can develop our offers to specifically help the retailer be a stronger business. This adds more value to growers and enables the growers to have a stronger farming operation overall.

Q: YOU’VE HAD AN IMPRESSIVE CAREER, TRACY. TELL US WHY YOU GOT INTO THE AG INDUSTRY?

LINBO: I grew up in rural SE, Minnesota, on a hobby farm. My best friend in high school grew up on a dairy farm. In addition to my high school ag instructor, she and her family got me interested in ag. Eventually, I went to the University of Minnesota where I earned a degree in ag economics with an emphasis in agronomy. My mentor from the university’s mentor program hired me as an intern, and I was hooked!

Q: WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE COMPANY?

LINBO: My first introduction to Growers Edge was as a customer, so I was familiar with the product. I also knew I wanted to work for a CEO I could trust. I have known Dan for over ten years. He is very intelligent, and customer and employee focused, so I knew we would make a great team.

Q: YOU’VE BEEN AT GROWERS EDGE NOW FOR 60+ DAYS, WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BEING PART OF THE TEAM?

LINBO: With the pandemic, the majority of the company has been working remotely. That hasn’t presented many issues since we are in constant communication about product design, marketing, sales strategies, and more. Dan is building such a fun and collaborative culture as a place to work, and I have truly enjoyed being able to work for such a positive CEO and company. Our team is very motivated to help ag retailers succeed and ultimately help their growers to succeed.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN GOALS FOR YOUR NEW POSITION?

LINBO: My main goal is to help the commercial team understand the company strategy and vision and develop the sales organization to exceed the retailer’s expectations. I also want to design our business growth plans and ensure that our team is always thinking of what will help the grower at the end of the day. Our biggest focus must be on how we can utilize data-driven insights to help retailers create agronomic offers that improve their margins and increase the efficacy of their sales programs. For the benefit of their growers, these offers also drive higher returns and are backed with the peace of mind of a product warranty.

Q: LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS ON GROWING THE CUSTOMER BASE
OF GROWERS EDGE?

LINBO: Right now, we are focused on corn and soybeans in the upper Midwest, but we plan to expand into other parts of the country and then explore global markets. I am having discussions about how we can gather data and confidence in other markets, such as cotton, and hopefully expand and branch outside the United States to help growers in other countries.

Q: BEFORE WE CLOSE, WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU’VE LEARNED SO FAR?

LINBO: It has been great meeting with retailers and learning they are eager to hear how we can help them differentiate themselves in the marketplace, build customer loyalty, and improve their ROI. We offer them choice and flexibility so they can provide value to their growers. They are a creative, innovative, and customer-focused group!
